Always Take The High Road

“So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” James 1:19-20, NKJV

What is this verse referring to when it speaks of “the wrath of man”? The wrath of man phrase refers to man lashing out in anger to get even with someone or to lash out and hurt someone. Those actions are usually in retaliation for a wrong done to them.

The scripture tells us that we should not get caught up in that mentality. It never accomplishes the will of God and only adds more anger to an already angry situation.

In response to those wrongs directed at us, we are to be “swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath”, or anger. That is the harder way to respond that just lashing out and getting even and trying to return the hurt.

These are three great characteristics that every Christian should desire to have in their daily lives. Read them again; “swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath”. They are not easy to practice but we would certainly have more peace in our life if we could practice those.

It would be even more wonderful if others would respond to us in that manner. However, they may not return that kindness to us but we must not let their actions drag us down to their level.

We must walk above the ugliness in the world. We must spend our time trying to heal hurt and not causing more hurt.
