What’s On Your Mind?
“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” Colossians 3:2, NKJV
We have become probably the most materialistic society to have lived. We, in the United States, have more than any other people that currently live or those who have lived in the past.
The Lord never said it was a sin to have things or to want things. He just warned us as to their place of importance in our life or to their priority in our life.
The verse for today reminds us of that truth that was taught by Jesus, Himself, in one or more of the Gospels. This verse tells us to have our mind set on the things above, not on things on the earth.
That simply means that we should put more importance on God’s plans for us than we place on the possessions that we can acquire during this lifetime. It doesn’t mean that we can’t have things. It just means to put God before the things.
When we do the opposite of that, we tend to be drawn more and more to the possessions and less and less to God. That becomes a problem for our fellowship with God especially in the areas of prayer and spiritual growth.
Keep your eyes on the Lord and set you mind on spiritual matters. You might be surprised that you won’t lose any of your possessions but gain God’s great favor.
