Can We Have “Do Over”
“I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you.” Luke 15:18, NKJV
It’s never too late for us to go back to God, seek forgiveness, and try again. The biblical example of that is found in the story of the prodigal son found in Luke 15.
This rebellious son had tried life on his own and had failed miserably. He realized His only hope was to go back to his father, seek his forgiveness, and try again to be what he needed to be in his life.
Which of us does not make mistakes in our life, need to be forgiven by the father, and try to do better at the Christian life? The answer is all of us have made mistakes and need another opportunity to do better at following God.
The good news is that the Father (God) extended forgiveness to His rebellious son and welcomed him back with open arms. So it is with God, our heavenly Father. He will do the same for us. That is the teaching of this parable.
We, like this rebellious son, will have to make the first move back to God. It was not God that moved away from the son, but it was the son that moved away from God. God does not move away from us but rather it is us that move away from God.
If you feel like you are not as close to God as you once were, maybe it’s time to retrace your steps and find that place and time in your life when you moved away from God.
Knowing God like I do, He will be right there waiting on you with His arms open wide.
