Be Care Who You Listen To
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” 1 John 4:1, NKJV
Many are led into error by those who make deceptive changes or additions to God’s Word to meet their own desires.
The best line of defense against the twisting of Scripture is to know exactly what the Bible says. For example, you may hear this often–quoted statement: “The Bible says money is the root of all evil.” But in 1 Timothy 6:10, the Bible actually says, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil”. What a difference a few words make!
Just because a pastor or television preacher says it, that does not make it so. Check it out yourself. Our scripture for today would have us test the spirits to see if they have actually come from God with a word for you.
Do you test what you hear? Ask God today for a wise and discerning spirit. If you are a Christian, you have the Holy Spirit living within and one purpose of the Holy Spirit is to teach you concerning spiritual matters.
Be encouraged today in knowing that you can read and understand the Bible yourself. As God for His Spirit to reveal the truths of the scripture to your mind and heart so you will not be misled by a false prophet, teacher or preacher.
