Throw The Junk Out

Run Forrest, Run

“…….let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” Hebrews 12:1, NKJV

On a designated day of the week, we can gather all of our trash that we have accumulated, and set it at the curb and the trash company hauls it off for us. I often wonder, as I am taking the trash to the curb, how do we accumulate so much trash? The good thing about the trash pick-up is that they never bring it back to your house.

We also accumulate a different kind of trash in our lives. The Bible refers to it as “extra weight” and “sin” in Hebrews 12:1. This verse would indicate that the added extra weight of the sin, that we accumulate, slows us down in our race that God has set before us. Paul often referred to life as a race.

Paul is telling us in this verse, that we need to “lay aside” every “extra weight” in order to run the race of our life faster and better. Paul knew this sin that we pick up in life would slow us down in what we might try to do for God in our life.

Is it time to take the trash out of your life? Look around and see if there is some sin (trash) that you have accumulated that you need to “lay aside” so you can better run for God the race that He has set before you. We might refer to some of this trash as “a habit”.

When you find some sin (trash), confess it to God, ask His forgiveness and He will forgive you and remove that sin from your life. Once that sin is gone, that sin is gone forever! The race of life is easier to run if we do this.
