Real and Lasting Joy
“Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.” John 16:22, NKJV
Have you noticed how easily happiness can leave us? Have you noticed how simple it is for your gladness of today to become your sadness of tomorrow? Have you noticed how the people you thought were your friends today can become your enemies tomorrow?
Have you noticed that there’s not too much that is stable in this world anymore? The things and/or people that we once were able to count on have become a disappointment to us.
Our scripture for today reminds us that the joy that we have found in Christ is the joy that will survive when all other joys fail us. Given enough time, the joys that come from this world will indeed fail us.
It is yet another lesson of how this world is failing in front of eyes. It is encouraging today in knowing that even though the world around us is failing, there is one that will never fail us. Friends may fail us, family may fail us, our job may fail us but Christ and the joy that we have in Him, and Him alone, will never fail us.
We may have sorrow now, but when we see Him our joy will be full and we will rejoice forever and no one will take that joy from us.
