God Knows How You Feel
“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:15-16, NKJV
There are some who feel that God is some far away entity that cannot begin to imagine how they feel in their suffering. They view God as being detached from this world and therefore detached from them. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Our verse today reminds us that Jesus was tempted just as we are tempted. He suffered like we suffer. He felt pain like we feel pain. He wept like we weep. His body ached like our body aches. He grew weary like we grow weary. As He was all God and all human in a human form, His humanity brought Him into the pit of human suffering and pain.
When we cry out to Him in that suffering and pain, He knows exactly what we are talking about. He has been there, He has done that.
Because of that reality, we have a Savior who can and does sympathize with our weakness. Therefore, we can come to the throne of grace boldly. That means we can boldly tell Him how we feel. He understands that and sympathizes with us in our dilemmas.
When we do that and do that boldly, this verse tells us that we will find mercy and grace in our desperate time of need. God help us to know that you care and understand our pain, suffering and weakness. Help us to stay boldly at your throne of grace. May you give us that mercy and grace in our time of need.
