How Is Your Faith?
“But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.” 2 Peter 1:5-7, NKJV
These verses encourage us to add some things to our faith as we “grow” along in our spiritual walk with the Lord.
Though the emphasis of these verses points to the things that we must add to our faith, I would focus on one word for the purpose of this devotional – “diligence”.
“Giving all diligence, add to your faith……”
The definition of diligence is; “a constant and earnest effort to accomplish what is undertaken”. We accepted Christ and we took on a responsibility and an obligation to be a Christian and to grow in our faith.
There is a “due diligence” needed in order to see our faith grow. The definition says; “a constant and earnest effort”.
We would do well to ask ourselves; am I exercising “due diligence” to see that my faith continues to grow?
Do I pray enough? Do I study my Bible enough? Do I have enough quite time with the Lord? Am I doing everything possible to help my faith grow?
Good questions. Only you can answer those questions concerning your diligence toward your own faith. Give it some thought then answer honestly.
If the answers are no, take appropriate action promptly.
