Guard Your Mind With Your Very Life
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Philippians 4:8, NLT
Have you ever heard the statement, “An idle mind is the devil’s playhouse”? The devil is relentless in his attack upon us. I’m not sure the mind even has to be idle before he will attack. He seems willing and able to attack even if our mind is engaged on spiritual matters. Have you ever been praying and your mind drift off to something else? Have you ever been in church, trying to worship, and your mind drift off to something else? Have you ever been reading your bible and your mind drift off to something else?
There is no doubt that the devil plays with our mind. It is one of his targets as he attacks us. If he can influence our thoughts and our concentration, he can then begin to plant seeds of evil thoughts and evil feelings into our mind.
Now the seeds that he might plant in our mind may not be the seed to do some horrible act, though that is always a possibility. He may just plant the seed of discouragement, or unhappiness, or sadness, or resentment, or envy, or bitterness, or doubt, or many other negative emotions into our mind. He is playing with our mind and the mind is a terrible thing to play with. But, that’s what he does. And he can ruin our day, our week, our month and even longer when those seeds begin to grow and take root in our mind.
Have you ever felt you were in a pit and couldn’t get out? Look at what David said in Psalm 40:2-3
“He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God.” Psalm 40:2-3, NLT
Are you ready to get out of the mud and mire of despair? Well, here it is!
“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:2, NKJV
This week, don’t let the devil play with your mind. Let the Lord lift you out of that pit, out of the mud and mire of the devil’s mind games. The mind is a terrible thing to play with. Don’t let the devil play with yours any more.
