These Things I Know

I Know We Must Look Past Our Trials

“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,” 2 Corinthians 4:17, NKJV

Nothing gives us better perspective and understanding of our trials and afflictions than the Bible. This verse is no exception to that rule.

Paul said that his trials lasted only for a moment. But yet, Paul’s life was filled with afflictions, yet he still says his trials are short in duration. Paul is right, of course; for he viewed life in terms of eternity, not in terms of time only. He looked beyond the here-and-now to the future.

If all we see is this present life, we will not have a very encouraging perspective of life. We must look beyond this life and see that the trials of this life are working for us an eternal weight of glory.

That glory, of course, will not be a reality for us until we step out of this world that is filled with troubles and step into the world to come which is filled with peace and eternal life and joy. Oh, what glory that will be for us.

When we experience afflictions or difficulties, think about this verse. It will be a great encouragement on those difficult days.

Attitude is everything when it comes to overcoming the hard days that we find all too often in our life. Think upward, not downward; believe big, not small, expect miracles, not mediocre, and your hard day might get a little easier.
