There is a great hymn of our faith entitled, “Onward Christian Soldiers”. Part of this great hymn says, “Marching as to war”. Notice the first word of the title is, “Onward”. There are too many times in our life that we spend our energy looking at the past (I too am guilty of this). We may be bound to the past because of guilt; or because of grief, or because of rebellion.
Regardless of what has us drowning in the past, we need to set ourselves free from the past that can defeat us in or “marching onward ” for the Lord. There is nothing we can do to change the past. We can only look forward to what the Lord has for us there.
I am reminded of the words of the Apostle Paul, “…one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead. I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”. Philippians 3:13-14, KJV
Be encouraged today in knowing that you can put the past in the past and look forward to what God has for you in the future.
